Staying at The Fairmont Nile City Hotel Cairo

Thousands of years of history. Cultural treasures. Historical relics. The great city of Cairo, the capitol of Egypt. Headed to Egypt’s capitol? The Fairmont Nile City Hotel Cairo is an excellent place to base yourself. I called this hotel home for just shy of a week.

Cairo is a bustling, frenetic metropolis with horrendous traffic. Moreover, almost 10 million people call Cairo home. In other words, getting around takes time and patience. Therefore, you’ll want to stay somewhere that has everything you need in one place. The Fairmont Nile City Hotel, Cairo literally has everything you could possibly need and even better, want. Above all, you will experience 5 Star Hotel comfort and world class service here.

Lodging Type: ★★★★★ Luxury chain hotel

Where is the Hotel located ?

The Fairmont Nile City, Cairo is theoretically about 14 miles/21.9 km or 30 minutes from the Cairo International Airport. Obviously, your commute duration will be dependent on the current traffic flow. When selecting a hotel in Cairo, I was focused more on value vs. cost and the available amenities on the property versus centrality.

Basically, it’s unlikely that you will be taking out on foot just to meander the city. There is gridlocked traffic everywhere. Crossing the street isn’t easy. For instance, one of our guides told us it has taken her up to 45 minutes to cross the street before, during high traffic times!

In addition, It is highly suggested, that you arrange official tours or a private guide to site see or get around in the city. This will make for your best experience. Your guide or tour will pick you up from the hotel and the driver will be in charge of handling the vehicle. This allows for a direct drop off or pickup wherever you are going with little hassle.

The Guest Room

Because I booked through American Express Travel, we also got a complimentary upgrade upon arrival. I originally booked the Fairmont Gold Room and was upgraded to the Fairmont Gold Nile Room. The only thing was, the upgraded room had two double beds. No biggie. It was a 16th floor room with a gorgeous view of the nile river, so we obliged.

Given that this hotel was home for a week, I was so pleased that it was so cozy. It has its own thermostat, spacious and soothing rain shower, a gorgeous view of the Nile and ample Le Labo toiletries in the bathroom. Right down to a Le Labo loofah. Swoon.

The sink area – the bathroom was LOADED with toiletries all from Le Labo, one of my absolute faves!

As far as luxury hotels go, this is one of the best stocked bathrooms I have ever seen. The toiletries are one of my faves, luxury brand Le Labo. The bathroom has everything. Soap, to shampoo and conditioner, a toothbrush, right down to a loofah. This bathroom had everything you could want or need.

Service

The Fairmont Nile City, Cairo delivers dreamy, professional 5 Star service from your arrival point to your departure. Our taxi pulled onto the Fairmont ramp, and the valet team warmly greeted us. They rushed in to open our doors and collect our bags.

The check in process was pleasant. A front desk associate assisted promptly. Another gentleman rushed to us. Following, he had us pick from a variety of flavors. Several minutes later – viola! A well manicured gentleman with a tray of juices appeared and served us our beverages.

The front desk is present 24/7 to tend to any needs you may have. Usually far from a high maintenance hotel Guest, but this stay was an exception.

Eventually, I began not feeling well. The front desk sent up a giant box of green tea for me, on the house. Later, they sent someone else up in the middle of the night to spray some type of holistic air freshener all around the room. I had to send for burn cream at one point (a story for another time) and they sent the in-house medic up to deliver it and see if there was any further assistance required. The Fairmont Nile City Hotel Cairo understands service and exceeds expectations.

Hotel Cost

The Hotel was undergoing remodeling during our stay. Although it was not presented as such, I believe the rates were slightly reduced due to this (the rooftop bar & pool were closed).

I visited Cairo in the month of October. The nightly room rate was 2,168 EGP or $138 USD per night, excluding any taxes, fees or gratuity.

If you’ve ever stayed at a Fairmont, or looked in to staying at one, you’d know that’s a steal.

Safety and Security

The Fairmont Nile City Hotel Cairo is extremely safe and secure.

Firstly, they do an inspection of every car that enters the premises. Meaning, their security team will stop the car and look in the trunk and other areas.

Next, there is an entire team of security, valet and doormen all at the entrance of the hotel. They keep watch for any unusual activity and help Guests with anything they may need.

Lastly, to enter the Hotel, you must pass through a full on metal detector.

Yes, like at the airport.

Possessions go through a conveyer belt and you must walk through a separate detector. While not exactly a welcoming or beautiful aesthetic at the front door, it does boost your confidence in the safety precautions the Hotel is taking.

What’s to eat?

The traffic in Cairo is unlike anything you’ll ever see.

The only thing close to it, is the traffic in my hometown of Los Angeles. Also, the area of New Cairo, where the majority of the Hotels are along the Nile, is not a pedestrian friendly area. Basically, it’s not as simple as taking a stroll out of your hotel to go grab a bite. Finally, most hotel properties are massive, and the streets adjacent will be packed with bumper to bumper cars.

This means having food options (and good ones at that) on site are really important. The room service is solid, but there are several nice restaurant options within the property.

I highly recommend Gingko. Everything was immaculate. The rooftop view of the Nile, the friendly, polished, attentive service. The food was delicious. Don’t miss this one!

Spa

There is an entire floor dedicated to the Willow Stream Spa.

I was starting to not feel well during my stay and I will admit… I visited twice.

Changing Room & Vanity Area in the Willow Stream Spa

The prices are standard for a 5 Star luxury Hotel. Both times, I had the facilities almost all to myself. There’s a vanity area that is well appointed with products and beauty implements. The facilities – comprised of rain showers, a dry sauna and steam room are very clean. Additionally, there is an attendant on duty at all times, in case you need anything at all.

My therapist – very kind and professional – did an incredible job. Straightaway, after your treatment you are led to a sitting room. There, you can enjoy nile city views and your choice of coffee or tea.

Know Before You Go

Like almost everywhere in Egypt, Fairmont Nile City Cairo allows smoking in many areas. Additionally, they even smoke inside the salon – it was very reminiscent of the 1950’s US beauty parlor scenes.

I visited the salon twice during our stay – great to get a reasonably priced blowout or your nail polish changed.

Prepare your immune system and bring vitamins or other remedies that work for you, as it’s very easy to get sick in Egypt, particularly Cairo.

If you need anything, call the front desk – this Hotel treats their Guests like GOLD. Honestly, the way this property takes care of their Guests is impressive.

The concierge team is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. If you have questions about anything from “how much should a taxi to ____ cost” or what time a local attraction closes – they have answers. Surely, one of the best concierge teams you’ll ever encounter.

Overall, this truly was an excellent stay. I felt at home, away from home. So, do you have any other questions about The Fairmont Nile City Hotel, Cairo? Ask me in the comments below!
